Decorating With a Wood Daybed

Long before master suites became all of the rage, many people would be content with a simple wood daybed. In fact, it has been shown that the wood daybed dates back to the Egyptians in the first dynasty. Although they have come a long way since then, there is nothing that adds more character to a guess room or a children’s bedroom then a wood daybed.

Wood daybeds are set up to almost look like a couch with a headboard instead of an upholstered backing. They work well for home offices that double as a guest bedroom because when people come over they can comfortably sit there and have the feeling of a couch, but then at night simply change around the pillow configuration and you have a very comfortable twin bed. They come in all different styles and levels of elegance.

You can decorate with a wood daybed that has more of a country flair, or perhaps a more modern daybed is for you. A popular choice if you have a modern décor is a sleigh day bed, or a Barbados style daybed which is rich dark wood that does not have a headboard, giving you a chaise lounge feel with the stability of a wooden daybed. You can also find a daybed that you can use for extra storage now. Many wood daybeds come with a three storage drawers on the bottom of the bed, or with one long draw that can hold extra bedding or anything you want to hide away from the room. Daybeds are excellent for rooms that are small in size and are unable to hold a regular bed.

Many wood daybeds also come equipped with a trundle bed that when hidden you can’t even tell that it is there, but then pulls out at night to give even more sleeping space for another person. It is located under the mattress and simply pulls out in one swift motion. The comforter or quilt will hide the trundle bed until it is necessary to use, giving it nice clean lines without the look of a standard bed.

Many people have even gotten away from traditional mattresses with their wood daybed. They instead choose a cushion upholstered in a fabric that has the feel of a couch but has the comfort to sleep. These work well in a den or family room, as well as a traditional guess room. There are literally thousands of choices when it comes to wood daybeds. Decide which room you are going to use it for, which style you want, and then buy your daybed accordingly.
